Ahead of the New York Comic-Con this weekend, Marvel and Netflix have announced three new cast members who will join Jon Bernthal in The Punisher.
First up is Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia), who will play Billy Russo, Frank’s Castle’s best friend from his days in the Special Forces. He runs a successful private military corporation called “Anvil.” Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls), meanwhile, has been cast in the key role of Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle and everyone around them. Finally, Amber Rose Revah (Son of God) joins The Punisher as Dinah Madani, a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is vexed by the vigilante. That’s not a bad line up by any means, but here’s hoping that some slightly more familiar names are added as the cast of the series continues to expand.
Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) is writing the first two two episodes, while Jim Chory will serve as executive producer alongside Jeph Loeb. It’s worth noting that the press release sent out by Marvel has confirmed that The Punisher will premiere on Netflix next year, news which confirms that three Marvel shows will hit the online streaming service in 2017.
The other two are Iron Fist and The Defenders, but after his appearance in Daredevil, The Punisher may just be the most highly anticipated of the three.
