With James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy riding a wave of critical acclaim to its August 1st release date, Marvel has no reason not to feel confident in the tentpole. And today, at the San Diego Comic-Con, the studio announced that it would be doubling up on the property, with news that Guardians of the Galaxy will come to the small screen in the form of an animated series.
No word yet on a premiere, but the series will air on Disney XD. That doesn’t come as much of a surprise, seeing as that kid-targeted network already airs the cartoons Avengers Assemble and Hulk and The Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Accompanying the announcement was a one-minute clip featuring a lot of action and the Rocket Raccoon and Peter Quill/Star-Lord characters.
Also at the animation panel, Marvel screened the first episode of the upcoming Disney XD series Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. Clips from the upcoming seasons of Avengers Assemble and Hulk and The Agents of S.M.A.S.H. were also screened. The former will arrive in September and the latter in October.
