Marvel has wasted no time in filling out its cast for the upcoming Cloak and Dagger series. Barely two weeks have passed since we caught wind of Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph securing the coveted title roles, but today brings confirmation that the studio has now filled out the rest of the roster with six new series regulars.

Ordered straight to series last April, Marvel and Freeform’s live-action adaptation chronicles the interracial and suitably superheroic romance between Cloak and Dagger (AKA Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen), who will be played by Joseph and Holt, respectively.

In terms of those new recruits, Andrea Roth (Rescue Me) will play the part of Melissa Bowen. Mother to Tandy, Roth’s character is considered the eternal optimist, despite the struggles to adapt to her new existence. On the other side of the coin, Gloria Reuben (Mr. Robot) is Adina Johnson, Tyrone’s mom. Per Marvel, she “invests every aspect of her being into giving her son the life she believes he deserves. But she props up and protects Tyrone so much she almost forgets to love him.”

Elsewhere, there’s also the addition of Bloodline star Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s father, Michael Johnson. Hemmed up in a cubicle in order to make ends meet, Johnson “trudges through his desk job to keep his family safe and happy. He’s a working-class father who does what he can to ensure his son will grow up to be a great man.” Carl Lundstedt (Grey’s Anatomy), meanwhile, is Liam, a salt-of-the-earth type and loyal ally to Tandy.

Last and certainly not least, James Saito has climbed on board as Dr. Bernard Sanjo, someone described as “an emotional cornerstone in Tyrone’s life,” while J.D. Evermore of True Detective fame rounds out today’s casting spree. He’ll play Detective Connors, a “contradiction of a man embracing an intimidating persona that overcompensates for a secret he keeps close to the vest.”

Behind the scenes, Joe Pokaski (Underground) is on board as showrunner, with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory executive producing. Gina Prince-Bythewood (Shots Fired), meanwhile, will helm the pilot episode, and we expect additional announcements to be made closer to release.

Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger series is one of many TV projects brewing at Marvel. There’s the long-running Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the gestating Runaways series, not to mention the high-profile adaptation of The Inhumans – and that’s before you even factor Netflix’s superhero offerings into the equation.

Freeform is yet to pinpoint a release slot for C&D, but all signs point to a 2018 premiere.
