News is coming in fast and furious in relation to the four new Netflix original series based on Marvel properties. Today we’re hearing that the Jessica Jones series looks to have found its writer and overseer in Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter, Twilight).

Rosenberg wrote the screenplays for all five Twilight films, and was the writer/producer/showrunner for the first four seasons of Showtime’s Dexter. She was also once in talks to develop a series titled AKA Jessica Jones for ABC, so she’s no stranger to the property. Coupled with the announcement that Drew Goddard is going to be the overseer for the Daredevil series, Marvel’s plans are likely farther along than we may have suspected.

There isn’t much more information to go on for the Jessica Jones series just yet but speculation is that since Rosenberg was already attached to the property in 2010, this series may be reviving her original concept and re-working it a bit to fit in with Marvel’s new mould.

For those unfamiliar with Jessica Jones, she was created by Brian Michael Bendis as a side character who attended the same high school as Peter Parker, and was blessed with superpowers after a radioactive accident that killed her family. Her first appearance, in the series Alias (no relation to the J.J. Abrams property), had her attempt to murder Scarlet Witch before being rescued by Carol Danvers. She subsequently opened her own detective agency and is now a member of The New Avengers under the alias Power Woman (thanks to her marriage to Luke Cage, aka Power Man).

How much of this story, if any, will end up in the show remains to be seen, though the overall plan is to weave the four series together to create a Defenders mini-series.

We’ll keep you up to date on any and all future announcements regarding Jessica Jones and the Marvel/Netflix deal in general. In the meantime though, let us know what you think of Rosenberg penning the series.
