Mike Colter Isn’t Worried About Luke Cage’s Chances Against His Fellow Defenders

So far, we've spent time with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage on Netflix, while Iron Fist will join their ranks next year. Once that show's released, they'll all assemble to form The Defenders, but based on how different these vigilantes are, chances are they'll come to blows at some point before ultimately putting their differences aside.

Once that show’s released, they’ll all assemble to form The Defenders, but based on how different these vigilantes are, chances are they’ll come to blows at some point before ultimately putting their differences aside.

One person who isn’t concerned about that though is Mike Colter. As perhaps the most powerful member of The Defenders, the bulletproof hero could easily overpower his fellow heroes, though Jessica and Iron Fist may be formidable enough to at least stand a chance. However, talking at a convention appearance this weekend, the Luke Cage star revealed he’s not overly concerned.

“Well, it’s not fair to spar with any of those guys because it would not be a fair fight. I mean, let’s be honest. You want me be the punching bag so that they can get their aggression out on me? And I just stand there and take it until one of them hurts their hand? Sure. I can be a punching bag.”

That’s definitely fighting talk, and comments that some fans will no doubt take issue with. After all, while Luke is nearly indestructible, Daredevil is definitely a superior fighter (not that it would do him much good when the man he punches won’t really feel it). Even so, seeing these characters cross path and exchange blows promises to be fascinating.

Plus, despite the fact that it still sounds like The Defenders won’t factor into the big screen side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future, seeing these street level superheroes together at last is incredibly exciting as they come together to take on a mysterious villain played by Sigourney Weaver.

A premiere date for The Defenders has not yet been revealed, but we do know that it will run for eight episodes on Netflix at some point in 2017. Stay tuned for more!
