If Stranger Things season 2 seems further along than first anticipated, it should; soon after Netflix issued the go-ahead for the show’s sophomore outing, co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer revealed that a second season was already in the cards before the renewal was made public. Such was the furore surrounding the show’s summer premiere.
That’s essentially carved out a head-start for the Duffer brothers, who have been plotting Stranger Things season 2 for months at this point. New cast members (read: Sadie Sink and Power Rangers star Dacre Montgomery) have been recruited, tantalizing plot details have been teased, and Netflix has been busy ironing out negotiations with its principal cast. Those conversations have resulted in Joe Keery and Noah Schnapp – Steve Harrington and Will Byers, respectively – being bumped up to series regulars in anticipation of the second season, though TVLine is reporting that another fan-favorite has secured her place.
Though Netflix hasn’t announced anything official at the time of writing, TVLine claims Millie Bobby Brown will be back, back, back as the troubled Eleven, who was last seen confronting the Demogorgon head-on in the Stranger Things finale. Word that Brown is potentially returning shouldn’t be all that surprising; after all, Eleven has all but cemented her place in popular culture at this stage, and inspired countless costumes over the Halloween weekend, Eggos and all.
The second season of Stranger Things will span nine episodes in total when it returns in 2017 and yes, there are fleeting story clues buried in each of those confirmed episode titles.
