Mister Mxyzptlk Makes Kara Danvers An Intriguing Offer In New Supergirl Promo

You know, in hindsight, perhaps “intriguing” isn’t the best word. In this first look at next week’s episode of Supergirl, Mister Mxyzptlk arrives in National City to creepily ask for Kara Danvers’ hand in marriage, something the Girl of Steel isn’t too pleased with, especially after he conjures up a wedding dress for her.

For those of you unfamiliar with the villain, Mister Mxyzptlk is a reality warping bad guy who’s been a thorn in Superman’s side for decades, and while he’s often harmless enough, he also happens to be incredibly powerful and capable of changing the world as we know it on a whim.

For more on what to expect from this fun looking episode of Supergirl – titled “Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk” – here’s the official synopsis from The CW:

When Mr. Mxyzptlk (guest star Peter Gadiot), a magical imp, shows up on Earth and declares his love for Kara (Melissa Benoist), she tries to let him down easy, thinking him harmless. However, he decides it’s a challenge and starts to wreak havoc on National City. Mon-El (Chris Wood) has seen beings like Mr. Mxyzptlk on Daxam and knows how dangerous they can be. He and Kara argue over how to get rid of Mr. Mxyzptlk, further straining their relationship. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together. Stefan Pleszczynski directed the episode written by Jessica Queller & Sterling Gates.

Tonight’s instalment of Supergirl put the focus on the Luthors, with the surprise revelation that Lena is in fact, Lionel’s illegitimate sister and the half-sister of Lex as a result. Now, her allegiances are more unclear than ever, but Mister Mxyzptlk showing up promises to be an entertaining distraction from the show’s overarching storyline.

It’s hard to say whether or not the villain will become a recurring fixture in Supergirl, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt, especially as the bad guys introduced so far have all been pretty forgettable. Still, there has to be a better way to woo Kara than dressing up like her cousin, right?
