Jodie Whittaker as Doctor Who and the previous Doctors

New Doctor Who Logo Unveiled Ahead Of Season 11

It's all change for Doctor Who this year. It’s all change for Doctor Who this year. Not only is Jodie Whittaker taking over as the Time Lord, but the show is under new management behind the scenes as well, as Chris Chibnall has stepped in as showrunner. With that in mind, it’s no surprise the series is getting rebranded with a shiny new logo, too.

This is the first change in logo since the last major relaunch back in 2010. It’s mostly original, but it does slightly call back to the version used during the Ninth and Tenth Doctor’s tenures from 2005 to 2010. Typically, the Doctor Who logo is blue, for instance, while this one retains the orange-y/yellow colour scheme from that earlier iteration.

It’s extremely likely that this promo also gives us a glimpse at the show’s new title sequence as well. It seems that the clock motif of the Twelfth Doctor’s era has been replaced with an outer space aesthetic which sees the TARDIS shooting through the cosmos. Likewise, that sounds very much like a taste of a new rendition of the iconic Doctor Who theme. Personally, we think it sounds terrific, with a haunting and synth-y vibe that gives it a classic sci-fi feel.

The CGI used in the sequence is also impressive. As you may or may not know, this will be the work of Double Negative, the company recently hired by the BBC to give Doctor Who a visual overhaul. The studio’s movie division has previously worked on some of the biggest blockbusters around – including Marvel’s Black Panther and DC’s Wonder Woman – so we’re expecting great things from them.

Jodie Whitaker and the rest of the cast are currently filming Doctor Who season 11 and now that the logo has debuted, we can perhaps expect the first trailer to arrive fairly soon. Stay tuned for more!
