New Gotham Promo Features Victor Zsaz, Arkham Asylum And Scarecrow

The new Fox Batman prequel series Gotham divided both critics and fans with last week's premiere, but I actually liked it a lot and am excited to see where the show goes from here. As I said in my review, the pilot wasn't perfect, but it effectively laid the groundwork for what could prove to be an excellent series - if the writers and showrunners play their cards right.

The new Fox Batman prequel series Gotham divided both critics and fans with last week’s premiere, but I actually liked it a lot and am excited to see where the show goes from here. As I said in my review, the pilot wasn’t perfect, but it effectively laid the groundwork for what could prove to be an excellent series – if the writers and showrunners play their cards right.

The second episode, titled “Selina Kyle,” airs tonight, but a new promo for the rest of the season has already been released. The trailer clocks in at a hefty two minutes and thirty seconds, and it fills each second of screentime with cool Easter eggs and exciting gems for diehard Bat-fans.

Most notable among them are the appearances of serial killer Victor Zsasz (played by Parenthood and The Forgotten actor Anthony Carrigan), up-and-coming mob boss Sal Maroni (Dexter‘s David Zayas), the Arkham district of Gotham City (home to the “torn down” Arkham Asylum) and what looks like the Scarecrow. It’s hard to tell if that last figure really is him, as we only get a brief glimpse of someone in a disheveled mask similar to the one Cillian Murphy wore in Batman Begins. Im fact, it could very well be the Dollmaker, a relatively new DC villain who debuted in the New 52 and appeared on Arrow last season.

I, for one, am most excited to see Zsasz on screen. He’s arguably one of Batman’s better and more dangerous adversaries. Sure, he’s no Joker or Ra’s al Ghul, but his complete lack of empathy and thrill for killing makes him impossible to reason with, while his signature style of carving tally marks into his body for each of his victims makes him worthy of the biggest padded cell in Arkham Asylum.

If anything, the new trailer shows that what we saw in the pilot was just the tip of the iceberg and that there are plenty of big characters and familiar faces headed our way this season.

Gotham airs Monday nights on Fox. Check out the new promo below and let us know what you think of the show so far in the comments section.
