New Supergirl Trailer Offers Much Excitement, Mentions Gotham

x

Hot on the heels of a full clip from its second season comes the Supergirl trailer we have all been waiting for. With last week’s offering serving as more of a tease, this new promo doesn’t necessarily give away too much, yet is both upbeat and highly enticing. In short, whomever cut this video found just the right balance to excite fans.

What will no doubt attract the interest of many is the chance to see more footage of Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman. Say what you want about how his costume looks, but his demeanor as both Kal-El and Clark Kent look to be spot on. It’s also quite intriguing to see how each member of the cast reacts to his presence, regardless of which persona he may be inhabiting. Should he be well received by viewers, I wouldn’t be surprised if the powers that be try to secure him for more than just two episodes.

We also get a brief glimpse at Lena Luthor, whom I happen to be looking forward to seeing. As a fan of Lex, it’s always enlightening to see how the rest of his family functions, especially in various continuities. Although Smallville’s Tess Mercer was, in fact, Lena Luthor by birth, one would expect to see this interpretation reside on the more villainous side of the fence.

Finally, I will say that your ears aren’t deceiving you when a man is heard to say he’s going back to Gotham. Some may be quick to think this is the harbinger of a crossover, but do keep in mind this is more likely just a cute reference. Bludhaven, once home to Nightwing, was referenced on Arrow several years ago and the former Robin never once showed up.

Last season’s Supergirl/The Flash crossover was made possible because CBS has stake in The CW and both shows share executive producers. Gotham, however, may as well be considered to be in a universe far, far removed because it’s on Fox and shares no creative minds with the “Arrowverse.” But we can always hope.

Supergirl returns for its second season on Monday, October 10 on The CW.
