Orange Is The New Black Season 5 Teaser Locks In June Premiere Date

Litchfield Penitentiary swings its doors open once more when Orange is the New Black season 5 premieres via Netflix on June 9th.

For the third year on the trot, Netflix’s female-fronted prison drama series Orange is the New Black recently collected the coveted SAG Award for Ensemble in a Comedy Series, and for those of you who tuned in for the show’s excellent fourth season, you’ll know OITNB was deserving of such an accolade.

Thankfully, it won’t be too much longer before the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary return to Netflix, as the online streamer has officially locked in a June 9th premiere date for season 5, keeping up the show’s signature early summer release window. Welcoming the return of Taylor Schilling’s Piper Chapman, the all-too-brief reveal trailer teases that “things will never be the same” following the fallout of season 4.

In the interest of safeguarding you from spoilers, we’ll refrain from divulging too much information on the most recent installment of Orange is the New Black; instead, we’ll point you in the direction of Mitchel Broussard’s review, who deemed the show’s fourth outing to be “hilarious, scintillating, and – in the unfortunate context of our reality – ultimately vital, Orange Is the New Black proves its long-term potential in season 4 through one universally captivating story after another.”

Joining Schilling on the casting docket are Laura Prepon, Michael Harney, Michelle Hurst, Kate Mulgrew, Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning and Uzo Aduba, who has already scored two Emmy wins for her scene-stealing performance as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren.

In light of today’s confirmation, the fifth season of Orange is the New Black will hit Netflix on June 9th. The online streamer has currently renewed its female-led prison drama through 2019, though there’s no telling how long Litchfield Penitentiary will remain in business.
