The CW has released the first promo for next week’s episode of Supergirl, and it features the surprise debut of a well known Superman villain from the comics. We’re referring to Parasite, an extremely powerful character who has even battled the Justice League in the past, so the Girl of Steel will definitely have her work cut out for her.

Brought to life with visual effects, Parasite is clearly going to show up as a result of some sort of outbreak. However, after he leaves Supergirl without her powers, a new hero will be stepping up.

For more on what to expect from this episode, here’s the synopsis for “Changing.”

The Guardian debuts to lend a hand after a parasite alien drains Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) of her power. Mon-El (Chris Wood) considers a less than desirable new career which then leads him to contemplate his motives. Alex (Chyler Leigh) struggles with a new reality. Andrew Kreisberg and Caitlin Parris wrote the script based on the story by Greg Beranti. The episode was directed by Larry Teng.

As you can see, it’s not only Supergirl who will undergo some changes here. James Olsen’s transformation into a vigilante known as The Guardian looks set to continue, while Alex Danvers will be dealing with the fallout of her decision to come out of the closet (something which will seemingly lead to her embarking on a romantic relationship with Maggie Sawyer).

That’s a very interesting development, though comic book fans will obviously know that Maggie ends up with Batwoman in the source material. The chances of that hero showing up in Supergirl are slim to none, but seeing how The CW series handles Alex from this point on promises to be very interesting indeed.
