Patrick Stewart Teases Possible Cameo Role In Star Trek: Discovery

Chatting to Red Carpet News TV, screen legend Patrick Stewart has hinted at a possible cameo role in Star Trek: Discovery.

Much like Mark Hamill and Star Wars, the great Patrick Stewart is practically synonymous with all things Star Trek at this point, so you can imagine our excitement that the screen legend recently teased a possible cameo role in the Discovery series over on CBS.

Chatting to Red Carpet News TV (h/t Heroic Hollywood), Stewart admitted that the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard isn’t off the cards, as the actor will seemingly have “good cause” to consider Star Trek: Discovery in the not-so-distant future.

It’s by no means a confirmation, but the fact that Trekkies still hold Stewart in high regard means that it’s really a question of when, rather than if, he’ll cameo in Discovery. Besides, it’s been quite some time since The Next Generation was playing on the airwaves, so the return of Patrick Stewart is arguably long overdue.

And so, asked whether he’s been approached about a potential role, the actor said:

No, I haven’t, but I may have good cause to look at it very soon.

As things stand, the Powers That Be over at CBS are bracing for season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, which is expected to be on our screens by early 2019. Front and center is Michael Burnham (The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green), and based on the star’s recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, next year’s installment will go “higher and deeper” into the Star Trek lore.

We’re just as excited [as we were for season one], but there is a blanket of peace in this sense of preparedness because we’re familiar with it and because we have our experiential knowledge from last year. Now, we have a little bit more hold on what it is that we’re doing, the universe we’re in, the story that we’re telling, the roles that each of us have within the story. We’re hopefully very boldly, if I may say, going higher and deeper.

Production on Star Trek: Discovery season 2 is expected to last right through until November, so don’t expect any updates on the CBS drama – including details of Patrick Stewart’s possible cameo – for quite some time.
