First Look At Peggy Carter As Captain Carter In Marvel’s What If…?

Just moments ago at this year's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Disney gave fans a first look at Peggy Carter in Marvel's What If...?

Even though Disney gave us a brief look at Phase 4 of the MCU during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, not much was shown off in the way of videos, trailers and promotional stills. For better or worse, Marvel Studios opted for a handful of announcements (and not much else), though it was nice to see a full roadmap for the next couple of years. Still, fans have been clamoring for something to tide them over, and it looks like they’re getting what they were hoping for at the official sixth D23 Expo, which kicked off earlier today at the Anaheim Convention Center in California.

As we already reported, footage from both Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the upcoming standalone Black Widow prequel leaked online and now, the first images from Marvel’s What If…? have begun to surface, and the one in the gallery below shows us Peggy Carter as Captain Carter. We kid you not.

Set to premiere in the summer of 2021, What If…? marks the franchise’s first proper animated project. Each episode will explore a key moment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Jeffrey Wright playing the role of Uatu, who belongs to the ancient godlike race called The Watchers.

Plenty of big names are already attached (including Josh Brolin as Thanos, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury), and Disney previously announced that the first episode will focus on what would have happened if Peggy Carter had been chosen to receive the Super Soldier Serum over Steve Rogers.

We’re still waiting for a full-length trailer, but in the meantime, you can feast your eyes on the new promotional image above. Needless to say, it looks like Peggy Carter’s take on Cap is just as patriotic, though it’s worth noting that she’s fighting for the Queen as opposed to Uncle Sam. Regardless, we’re pretty excited to see all these alternate scenarios come to life in What If…?
