Not every TV show is like The Good Place or Pokémon, where the finale was the perfect way to end the story. Some are notorious for having really bad season finales. Now, people are looking for titles to avoid in case they have to come across another terrible ending, and with the writers’ strike still ongoing, it’s no surprise that people want to revisit some older content.
The conversation started on r/AskReddit, where a Reddit user asked “What television series had the biggest b*llshit finale?” This question sparked multiple responses, with people citing shows such as Star Trek: Enterprise, Hosue of Cards, and Pretty Little Liars, just to name a few. It seems like there are a handful of TV shows whose endings didn’t live up to the premise when the show first started. And don’t get people started with shows that only ended with a cliffhanger after the series got canceled.
What’s interesting about this conversation was that a group of people who claimed to have watched (and suffered through) Game of Thrones, confessed that they’re using this Reddit thread to find shows to avoid. Who would blame them when season 8 produced a highly disappointing ending, compared to how the show first started back in 2011? Better be to be safe than sorry.
And it’s not just Game of Thrones fans, either. People who watched The Walking Dead also chimed in and claimed that the later seasons began to drop in quality, which led to people getting annoyed at the end when they learned that the finale was used to “promote the spin-offs.”
Not every TV show is a masterpiece. And it would make sense why some showrunners like Succession‘s Jesse Armstrong decided to end their show despite its immense popularity. While there will be people who would be begging for more or studios wanting to milk the franchise to its core, a good showrunner and writer must know when a story must come to a conclusion.
