Gotham was the first of the current wave of superhero TV shows to return last night with its season two premiere, and Fox has now released a promo for next week’s instalment. Titled “Knock, Knock,” it doesn’t share much in common with the upcoming Eli Roth movie starring Keanu Reeves, but does look set to be just as tense, as Jerome sets out on his path to one day becoming The Joker.

The decision to explore the villain’s origin story has been a controversial one, but the premiere certainly did a pretty good job of establishing him as a dangerous new threat.

In next week’s Gotham, on the heels of his reinstatement, Gordon is thrust onto the high-profile case tracking the deadly inmate escape from Arkham Asylum. Meanwhile, Galavan plans his next move, while Bruce asks for help from his father’s old friend to unlock the secrets in his office and Nygma asks out Kristin Kringle (Chelsea Spack) on a date.

The show has certainly had its ups and downs, but with a pretty major Batman tease at the end of last night’s episode, it’s hard not to be excited about seeing what’s in store for these characters.
