When the inevitable news arrived earlier this week that The Punisher would not be renewed for a third season on Netflix, scores of fans took to Twitter to share their frustration, among whom was diamond-selling rapper Eminem.
Last night, Marshall Mathers earned over 80,000 retweets when he posted the following open letter to Netflix:
“DEAR @NETFLIX, REGARDING YOUR CANCELLATION OF THE PUNISHER, YOU ARE BLOWING IT!! SINCERELY, MARSHALL”
After Marvel fans shared the tweet in solidarity, it seems that a couple of cast members from Steve Lightfoot’s show caught wind of the post and are pleased to have the rapper on their side. The first of the pair to respond was Krista Dumont actress Floriana Lima, who took to Twitter to express her thanks:
“Well now…the real Slim Shady JUST stood up my friends Thank you @eminem”
Next up was Dinah Madani actress Amber Rose Revah, who seems honored to know that Mathers is a fan of the show:
“I guess this means @Eminem watches our show. I imagine this is that same feeling as when you have your first child.”
Though The Punisher‘s cancelation was met with some backlash, it was hardly the most surprising news, with lead actor Jon Bernthal saying he was “at peace” with the possibility weeks before the announcement was made. After Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil all got the ax in quick succession last year, the writing was very much on the wall for Frank Castle’s show.
In any case, with the Marvel/Netflix era almost at an end, fans are currently wondering when we might next see the Punisher and the Defenders back on our screens. If a report published last December by Variety is anything to go by, then it could be as long as two years before these heroes are allowed to show up on any non-Netflix releases, suggesting that fans may have quite the wait ahead of them. In the meantime, though Jessica Jones also got the ax this week, the show still has one more season coming our way later this year.
