Gotham Season Finale Promo

It’s Pure Chaos In This Extended Promo For Gotham’s Season Finale

Even though we're going to have to wait until 2019 (!) to see how the saga concludes, we can all breathe a sigh or relief knowing that Gotham has been renewed for one more season. But before turning the page, there's one more episode to be digested from the current run, that being "A Dark Knight: No Man's Land."

Of course, the comic book aficionados among you will be able to draw a quick parallel between the season finale and the literary work of the same name. But whereas the calamity seen in the source material was caused by an earthquake, it appears as though Jeremiah Valeska will be to blame for nearly destroying the city.

Last week, the crazed young man came close to achieving his goal, but was ultimately thwarted by the GCPD. Now, he’s backed by Ra’s al Ghul, who has limitless resources. If that sounds scary, it should, and it’s something that a newly released extended promo (seen at the top) circulating ahead of this week’s offering teases.

Oddly enough, both villains have some bizarre fixation on Bruce Wayne, with Ra’s wanting the future Batman to rise up and become the “Dark Knight” the city needs – though probably not for reasons as altruistic as Bruce himself would strive for.

Jeremiah, meanwhile, strangely sees the would be Caped Crusader as somewhat of a brother, preserving the “two sides of the same coin” dynamic that Batman and the Joker share in the comics. And while we’re told neither of the Valeska twins are the one true Joker, this is really as close as the series can get to achieving that end. Had WB’s motion picture not brought the hammer down, it’s my assumption that the producers wouldn’t have to do any back pedaling. Hey, if Smallville had access to Lex Luthor, what sense does it make to handcuff this particular show?

For more, be sure to check out the official synopsis:

Jeremiah warns a skeptical Gordon of more destruction coming Gotham’s way, and Gordon is forced to make a potentially devastating decision. Meanwhile, Barbara rallies together a team to secure her position, as alliances in the underworld shift and prove no one can be trusted. Then, Bruce is forced to come to terms with the future in the all-new “A Dark Knight: No Man’s Land” season finale episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, May 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-422) (TV-14 L, V)

Gotham‘s season finale airs this Thursday night on Fox.
