Since it erupted onto television screens in 2011, Golden Globe winning actress Sarah Paulson has been a core part of the American Horror Story anthology series. In a starring cast of 27, across seven very different seasons, only Paulson and Evan Peters have the distinction of having featured in each one. It comes as little surprise, then, to hear Ryan Murphy not only confirm her involvement in the upcoming eighth season, but also to find that plans are afoot to ensure the actress will be augmenting her physicality once more – but in a very new way.
Having revealed to the Television Critics Association that season 8 of the show will be set in the future, Murphy made the further revelation to Entertainment Weekly that Paulson would be using dental appliances for her new role.
“Sarah Paulson is very excited about the dental appliances she will be wearing on the show.
“It’s set in the near future. It has nothing to do with anything you’ve ever seen before. It’s really chilling.”
Fans will now undoubtedly enter into frenzied speculation as to what possible near-future scenario could require Paulson to wear dental appliances – and indeed, what kind of dental appliance those might be.
To date, the most notable physical transformation the actress undertook for American Horror Story was when she played conjoined twins in the fourth season – titled Freak House. The connection here goes further, as that was the only season to date that also occurred outside of a current timeline, having been set in the 1950s.
Ryan Murphy is renowned for his caginess when it comes to early information about his plans for forthcoming seasons of American Horror Story and, when he does deliver facts, their release is always carefully and meticulously calculated in nature – and it usually begins with the TCA. The biggest clue as to the storyline of each season is always the anthology title, though – but we probably won’t hear about that for some time yet, since season 8 of American Horror Story doesn’t arrive on FX until later in the year. As always, though, we’ll keep you posted once we learn more.
