‘Secret Invasion’ just teased the Skrulls’ next evolution

Looks like the Skrulls are about to get a major upgrade.

Secret Invasion just dropped its second episode, throwing a few more curveballs into this tangled and morally complex MCU tale. This week saw Nick Fury struggling to process Maria Hill’s death, dealing with the consequences of being involved in the Russian terrorist attack, and finally revealing that he’s got much closer personal ties to the Skrulls than previously thought.

Where the entire series is heading is anyone’s guess, though a major clue midway through the episode looks to be teasing a type of Skrull very familiar to readers of Marvel Comics. Midway through, Emilia Clarke’s G’iah was secretly flicking through the Skrull DNA database, revealing that they’ve obtained DNA samples of Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, a Frost Beast from Thor: The Dark World, Cull Obsidian from Avengers: Infinity War, and Extremis from Iron Man 3.

Those, together with the tease about Gravik trying to create a stronger Skull, has to be leading towards the MCU arrival of a Super Skrull. In the comics, these are enhanced Skrull shock troops, with perhaps the most famous example having all of the Fantastic Four’s powers at once. The MCU version will be a little different, but it seems we can expect them to have all of the powers on this list and then some.

Perhaps Gravik himself will undergo the Super Skrull procedure and get these various abilities by the final episode, making him instantly one of the most powerful beings on Earth. Maybe it’s time for Fury to finally get on the line to his powerful friends…
