Seth Meyers has message for his on-strike writers following Emmy nomination

The Emmy nominations prompted Meyers’ message.

Late night host and SNL alum, Seth Meyers, took to Twitter to respond to being nominated for an Emmy but also to send a message to his writers who are currently on strike as part of the Writers Guild of America.

Emmy nominations were announced today and Late Night with Seth Meyers earned a nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. This begs the question that if the strike continues until the end of the year, will there even be an Outstanding Writing category at next year’s Emmy’s? Such a question is irrelevant if the strike ends soon.

Meyers tweeted that he was honored to be on the list “but today is a reminder that while being nominated is VERY nice it’s not as nice as doing a show every night.”

Meyers then added a shoutout to his writers, stating, “Here’s hoping writers from these shows can get back to work soon on a deal that’s fair.” He then ended the tweet with the hashtag “#WGAStrong.”

Meyers’ supports for his writers and the WGA comes on the heels of the Deadline report from yesterday that makes some eye-opening claims about what studios think of the WGA strike, which began on May 2. Deadline claims that one studio executive said, “The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses.”

The report could have a been a further motivating factor for Meyers to immediately respond to the Emmy nod with a show of support for his writing staff, especially considering that Meyers — before he was a handsomely paid late night host — was head writer at SNL, a show that also earned a nomination this year in the same writing category as Late Night with Seth Meyers.
