According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Playstation Network’s long-gestating adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s Powers graphic novel has finally found its two leads. After a few weeks of on-again off-again negotiations, District 9 star Sharlto Copley and Battlestar Galactica alum Michelle Forbes have joined the 10-episode superhero crime drama.

Copley, who’s been making a name for himself in high-profile projects like Elysium, Maleficent, and The A-Team, will make his small screen debut as Christian Walker, who is described as a “dapper and charismatic faded hero who lost his powers in a battle with a super-human mass killer.” Now a detective who works with law enforcement, he uses his unique experience to investigate crimes in the Powers community with his partner, Detective Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward).

Forbes, on the other hand, will take the role of Retro Girl, a world-famous superheroine whose mysterious murder acts as the catalyst for the story. Retro Girl is described as “the undisputed super star of the Powers community, an icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen.”

Copley and Forbes don’t quite match their roles in appearance, but their acting abilities make such a departure from the source material forgivable. I, for one, am extremely excited to see what Copley does with the role. Christian Walker may be the lead of the story, but he has a darkness too him, mixed with buried integrity and a rock-star attitude, that will give Copley plenty of scene-chewing material.
