Ooh, it’s all happening now. After the new season’s teaser trailer earlier this week, BBC has finally confirmed a New Year’s Day premiere for Sherlock‘s return to its home channel in the UK. This follows the recent announcement that the series would be making its return to American screens on the 19th of January. As it happens, the second and third episode of the hit adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic sleuth novels will be broadcast by the BBC on the 5th and the 12th, meaning it’ll have appeared in its entirety in the UK before it hits the other side of the Atlantic.

A worldwide release may have served better to curb piracy, but who am I to judge? No-one, is who. Besides, I’m UK born and bred and I’ll be snuggled up on the 1st like the rest of my potato-chomping chums here in Ireland to finally find out what happened after the end of “The Reichenbach Fall.”

BBC’s also been kind enough to provide a synopsis for the series, which I’m trusting isn’t filled to bursting point with profanity and lewd content because I’m too spoiler-cautious to actually read it. You can do so for me, if you like:

“Two years after the devastating effects of “The Reichenbach Fall,” Dr John Watson has got on with his life. New horizons, romance and a comforting domestic future beckon. But, with London under threat of a huge terrorist attack, Sherlock Holmes is about to rise from the grave with all the theatricality that comes so naturally to him. It’s what his best friend wanted more than anything, but for John Watson it might well be a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’! If Sherlock thinks everything will be just as he left it though, he’s in for a very big surprise…”

So, yeah, there’s some details of a sort. Sherlock‘s return to screens, in the season premiere “The Empty Hearse,” is not too far away now. If you’re as excited as I am, let us know in the comments section below.
