The news that the MCU would be introducing Moon Knight into its cavalcade of onscreen superheroes came as a surprise for a lot of reasons. For starters, the lead of the upcoming Disney Plus series has been a historically tough sell for Marvel, with several boot-ups and cancellations since the character’s comic introduction in 1975.
But also – and this is always the case when new ideas sprout out of the ground – there doesn’t seem to be a clear choice for the part. That doesn’t mean, however, that there aren’t any ideas floating around Marvel Studios.
In fact, according to a source close to We Got This Covered – the same individual who brought us the confirmed news of the Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk TV series – one performer being considered for the part is Shia LaBeouf.
Now, if that idea terrifies you, and all you picture when you hear that name are the horrendous Transformers pictures, DUIs, paper bag masks, and “inspirational” videos (JUST DO IT!), you’ll be happy to know that LaBeouf isn’t the only actor on the wishlist. As we’ve mentioned before, Andrew Garfield, the lead in the Amazing Spider-Man films, is also under review, along with several others.
With that said, LaBeouf is in the midst of a reformation. His latest film in theaters, The Peanut Butter Falcon, bursted out of the 2019 SXSW festival with its good, crowd-pleasing heart and proudly walked away with an Audience Award.
But LaBeouf’s journey will be taking another stride later this year. Honey Boy, the actor’s semi-autobiographical project, will be screening at the Toronto International Film Fest in September, with Manchester by the Sea star Lucas Hedges playing the LaBeouf part and the writer-performer taking to the screen in a role based on his father. It looks pretty promising, and could be another big step on his path to making a comeback.
Tell us, though, do you think LaBeouf would be a good choice for Moon Knight? Or should Marvel climb up a less controversial tree? Be sure to make your case in the comments section below.
