Sons Of Anarchy Review: “One One Six” (Season 6, Episode 2)

The aftermath of one child's decisions will make or break the Sons of Anarchy as they get pulled farther into the drama of the gun business that Jax (Charlie Hunnam) has been so adamant about getting the club away from.

With Tara (Maggie Siff) home, her future still very much up in the air, things are even more complicated. Jax will have to start thinking more in the interest of the people he claims to love, and less for his own personal interest. His pride has already cost him more than he realizes. Tara is moving forward with a number of hard decisions that she’s been putting off, and now with the threat of serious jail time, she can’t put them in the corner and pretend they don’t exist anymore.

We have witnessed the de-evolution of Tara’s moral compass over the last five seasons of Sons of Anarchy, and even though it looks like she is actively trying to live life in reverse, it might be too little, too late. The first step, although blurry, is to protect herself and her sons. Apparently her translation of this includes the acceptable possibility of separating her children from their father completely if her trial doesn’t go in her favor.

Tara is clearly planning for the worst-case scenario, and has enlisted the help of the club lawyer. This is quickly becoming a conflict of interest for her legal counsel as Tara begins to spill club secrets in the interest of her family. Although she doesn’t seem malicious in her intent, something tells me that Jax isn’t going to see it that way. The repercussions may be more than what Tara has bargained for. Not only is she potentially putting Jax in another rough spot with the club, she’s preparing for a war that she might not be equipped to win.

Jax loves his sons and is willing to do whatever is necessary to keep them safe. We saw the results in season 3 of the lengths he will go to do so. If Tara thinks that Jax will just sit back and let his kids be taken away from him, it’s possible that she may have been hit in the head a little too hard at some point during her recent incarceration. There is no doubt in my mind that Jax would fight tooth and nail with every resource he has at his disposal, and some that he has yet to discover, to be reunited with them. And, Tara won’t be protected by the bars of her cell forever; the time will come for retribution. Do you think she’s thought that far ahead, or is she just planning for the immediate future?

Jax is essentially turning into a better looking version of Clay. He’s started weaving a web of half-truths that even he must be having trouble keeping up with at this point. Before he knows it, he’s going to starting tripping himself up and forgetting which lies he told. It’s no wonder his marriage is falling apart. He ended up with the woman of his dreams and he has done everything he can to screw things up. The moment Tara stopped acting like herself, and started turning into an ‘old lady’ is the moment he started losing her.

What other bad news – besides Clay dropping the ball – do you think is waiting for Jax on the next episode of Sons of Anarchy? Let us know in the comment section below!

Random Thoughts:

  • I’m still not convinced that Clay is going to turn rat. Somehow, I predict, he’s going to find his way out of this situation.
  • Gemma (Katey Sagal) making a point to let Tara know that she wasn’t the one to turn her in was uncharacteristically mature for her.
  • Does anyone else think that Lee (Donal Logue) is going to end up like Agent Stahl (Ally Walker) when the dust settles?
  • Bobby may be the most level-headed member of SAMCRO. Not only did he have the brains to walk away when things headed south, but he’s working on establishing his own charter in order to remain in the club.
  • Was Lee hitting his hands against the desk to simulate Clay’s arthritis before forging his name?
  • I was completely bummed that Dave Navarro won’t be continuing his run on Sons of Anarchy for no other reason than that I was a fan of his former MTV reality show.

Until next episode.
