Star Wars Rebels Creator Denies Popular Fan Theory About Ahsoka Tano’s Return

Star Wars Rebels fans have been jumping for joy ever since it was announced that beloved Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano would return for the animated series' fourth and final season. The most common fan theory for how she'll come back goes that Ahsoka will reappear in the form of one of the giant wolves seen in the season 4 trailer. Yes, it seems pretty far-fetched, even for Star Wars standards, but a lot of people have gotten behind the idea.

Star Wars Rebels fans have been jumping for joy ever since it was announced that beloved Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano would return for the animated series’ fourth and final season. The most common fan theory for how she’ll come back goes that Ahsoka will reappear in the form of one of the giant wolves seen in the season 4 trailer. Yes, it seems pretty far-fetched, even for Star Wars standards, but a lot of people have gotten behind the idea.

Until now, that is. Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni took to Twitter today to offer his fans some “clarification” about Ahsoka’s return. He shared a piece of artwork depicting an owl, a giant white wolf and Ahsoka, each with a label, with the latter’s very clearly stating that she’s “not the wolf.” Can’t make it more obvious than that, right?

Fans will remember that the character last appeared in the season 2 finale, “Twilight of the Apprentice.” Ahsoka was horrified to learn that her former master Anakin Skywalker had become – you probably know this bit – Darth Vader. After helping Ezra, Kanan and Chopper escape from Vader, she elects to stay behind on the planet Malachor as the Sith temple collapses. She’s followed by an owl-like creature known as a Convor, which Filoni has previously promised has a deeper meaning and significance.

As we await for Ahsoka Tano to reappear in animation, there’s been a lot of talk recently about the character making the transition to live-action. Rosario Dawson has long been a popular fan choice and the actress herself has even embraced the campaign with open arms. It turns out that she thinks she’d be awesome in the part, as well. Whether that’ll be enough to sway Disney to bring the character into the movies remains to be seen, but we certainly wouldn’t be against it.

Star Wars Rebels will return to Disney XD later this year.
