New Star Wars Rebels Season 2 Trailer Ties Into The Force Awakens

Before the premiere of Disney XD's Star Wars Rebels, there was a lot of talk about the animated series tying into the events of The Force Awakens. That didn't really end up being the case, as rumours that The Inquisitors would somehow factor into the J.J. Abrams release proved to be false (though there are those who believe there's a link between them and the Knights of Ren).

Regardless, a new trailer for the second half of season two has now been released which seemingly features some very interesting connections to The Force Awakens. For starters, we hear and see a mysterious figure who definitely bears a resemblance to Andy Serkis’ Supreme Leader Snoke; could Star Wars Rebels shed some light on the mysterious villain’s history?

We also see a lightsaber identical in design to Kylo Ren’s, and while it’s been confirmed that that villain made his own blade and that the crossguards are used to release excess energy from a cracked crystal housed within, it appears as if Star Wars Rebels is going to address the history of where that design comes from, something which definitely has the potential to be very interesting.

Throw in appearances from Princess Leia and Yoda, and this trailer promises big things when Star Wars Rebels returns to Disney XD on January 20th.
