Star Wars Rebels is ending in the next few weeks – but dry those tears, Star Wars fans, as we’ve been promised that there will be another animated series set in that galaxy far, far away coming soon. And now, we might know exactly what it’ll be.
A new trademark filed by Lucasfilm leads us to believe that the new show will be titled Star Wars: Resistance. The reason we’re pretty sure this applies to a TV series rather than anything else is because the trademark covers spinoff media like books, games, toys, etc.
This scoop comes to us from Twitter user Jordan Maison, who shared the following:
LFL just filed a trademark for "Star Wars Resistance" & before you start claiming "Mobile Game" it's registered for books, games, toy, and all the same stuff their media (shows/movies) get….Could this be thesequel timeline based series that's been rumored? #StarWars

As Maison points out, the title Resistance heavily suggests that this animated series, if that is indeed what it is, will be set within the continuity of the Sequel Trilogy. To jog your memory, the Resistance – first introduced in The Force Awakens – is the successor to the Rebel Alliance of the Original Trilogy that’s led by General Leia Organa and fights against the First Order.
If we’re on the right track here, then Star Wars: Resistance will be the first full-length TV show to springboard off the modern movies, though characters such as Rey, Jyn Erso and more have already appeared in the Forces of Destiny miniseries. It’s a great idea, too, as fans have often said that they’d be interested in seeing the period before TFA starts, explaining how the First Order rises up from the ashes of the Empire and how the Resistance forms to face them.
This series would be the perfect place to explore that vital part of Star Wars lore and would also be a neat way to look at what happens to the characters from Rebels in the future, as many of them are bound to be knocking around the galaxy, still fighting the good fight, years later. Though not Jedi knight Kanan, however, who recently sacrificed himself to save his friends.
Star Wars Rebels continues Monday nights on Disney XD. In the meantime, tell us, do you like the idea of a Resistance animated series? Have your say in the comments section down below.
