Even though Arrow is slated to end following its eighth season and the Oliver Queen character has been confirmed to die during this fall’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, that may not be the last time we see actor Stephen Amell suit up. Don’t forget, he’d previously hinted that his time in the Arrowverse wasn’t necessarily at its end.
Before we ponder the possibilities of what that could mean, let’s take a look at what Amell had to say when recently speaking at MegaCon in Orlando. When asked if he’d ever reprise the Green Arrow role beyond the series finale, he responded with the following:
“I owe so much to them. So if five years from now they’re wrapping up Show X and they were like, ‘You know what would be the cherry on top of the sundae? Would you come back?’ What am I going to say? ‘No?’ It’s a shitty idea that I’d say no. You do what you can. I owe a lot to people, so if they need something from me, they can always have it.”
When it comes to how Ollie could possibly return following his fated demise, there are actually a variety of ways this could play out.
The most obvious solution would be via flashbacks or hallucinations, or even time travel. Hey, Legends of Tomorrow is one of Arrow‘s sister series, after all. Plus, it’s hard to forget how Barry Allen likes screwing with timelines over on The Flash.
But to be completely honest, my gut keeps telling me that Amell could return as Oliver’s doppelganger in future crossovers. Having already been Dark Arrow from Earth-X, we can’t rule out him playing other alternate versions of the Emerald Archer. Time will tell, I guess.
Arrow returns with new episodes on Tuesday nights this fall on The CW.
