A hit Netflix thriller still stuck in limbo after 3 years makes it hard to expect miracles from TUDUM

And you thought 'Warrior Nun' and 'Lockwood & Co.' had worse fates.

Netflix’s mega event, TUDUM, is all set to hit the floor in a few hours and is expected to decide the fate of shows like Shadow and Bone, Queen Charlotte, and many more. But it is hard to raise our hopes for a positive development or any update for that matter when a hit Netflix thriller series that ranked number one in the Nielsen ratings in the first week of its release has been completely neglected by the streamer since its debut three years ago.

For those whose memories of the show have been muddled by all the cancelations and renewals Netflix has indulged in the last few years, I am of course talking about Ryan Murphy’s epic psychological thriller Ratched, starring his all-time favorite Sarah Paulson as the iconic Nurse Mildred Ratched and telling the events preceding the story of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Seeing that Netflix entered into a bidding war to win the show, instantly renewed it for two seasons before it even released, and the show itself received high praise, it was obvious to expect news about its second season as soon as the first season debuted.

But since its appearance on the streamer back in September 2020, there has been no confirmation that Ratched is indeed moving forward with the story of its hard-to-love but equally impossible-to-hate Mildred Ratched. What it did receive was an ambiguous comment from series star, Sarah Paulson, who confirmed our worst fear in a chat with Variety in 2022 – that she has no idea whether the second season was in the works or not.

While her comments were temporarily treated as an attempt to throw off fans of the show, as the mega announcement never came, it is becoming very difficult to not believe that Netflix hasn’t left the fate of Ratched to gather dust and hasn’t even bothered to respect the show and its fans enough to grace it with a proper cancelation.

But Netflix isn’t exactly new in the business of breaking hearts. So, while Ratched will most certainly not get any kind of update at today’s TUDUM event, the streamer has plenty of other opportunities to leave its subscribers severely disappointed or boundlessly ecstatic. Here’s hoping Netflix is not planning to live by its current moniker
