Succession‘s third episode for season four not only shattered audiences’ expectations with its bombshell plot, it also broke its viewership records across streaming and broadcast TV.

The show’s newest episode, titled “Connor’s Wedding”, received a 22 percent increase in viewership compared to last week’s broadcast and 7 percent more since season four’s premiere. Deadline reported that episode three accumulated 2.5 million viewers across HBO and linear telecasts. The latest broadcast has also managed to break its previous record of 2.3 million. This comes as no surprise since the latest installment featured a major character death early on in the season.

Episode three of Succession had viewers shocked after they had to say goodbye to one of the show’s lead characters. Not to mention, it left those wondering what will happen to the Roy family moving forward. In a show about the Roy children preparing for a future without their father, little did they know that episode three’s events would become an emotional rollercoaster for them to navigate.

Season four of Succession will be the final season of the series and there are no plans to create a fifth season or a spin-off series for any of the characters. The show’s creator, Jesse Armstrong, wanted people to focus on the show rather than worry about when it would end. He also reassured viewers that neither he nor his characters felt like they’d “overstayed their welcome.”

New episodes of Succession are released every Sunday on HBO and HBO Max.
