This Week’s Episode Of The Walking Dead Will Be An Extended One

The Walking Dead is reaching the end of its ninth season as this Sunday marks the penultimate episode of what’s been a truly dramatic run of the show. And to help it go out with a bang, episode 15 – titled “The Calm Before” – will be a special extended one. If you want specifics, it’ll be 57 minutes in total without commercial breaks.

Going by what we think might happen in the episode, there’s good reason for this extra long runtime. On the surface, “The Calm Before” will offer the survivors a chance to have a good time as Ezekiel’s trade fair that’ll bring together the various communities gets underway. The promo images for the installment have even shown typically sullen characters like Michonne cracking a smile. Let’s not forget though that the Whisperers are waiting in the wings and Alpha’s not about to let her enemies have a party without crashing it.

Here’s the synopsis for the episode:

“The fair at the Kingdom is underway, with all four communities coming together in celebration for the first time in years; while some pacts are renewed, other deals will come at a much steeper price.

You see, in the comics, this event ends in bloodshed. Alpha and her creepy cronies kidnap some poor unfortunates from the fair and kill them, putting their decapitated heads on pikes as a grisly warning to the others. We won’t name the characters who perish on the page for fear of spoilers but, suffice it say, these deaths would hit the show hard. Having said that, you never can tell which bits of the source material the series is going to replicate, so this episode could be a surprise for all TWD fans.

The Walking Dead 9×15 “The Calm Before” airs on AMC this Sunday, March 24th, while the season finale, “The Storm,” then follows the week after.
