It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Review: “The Gang Gets Quarantined” (Season 9, Episode 7)

The Gang never has been much for maintaining their health. Except for an episode where everyone fought to get health insurance, it's mostly been crummy food, lots of beer, and the occasional crack rock. With all that going on, it's surprising there haven't been many major health scares on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for us, that all changes in The Gang Gets Quarantined.

Another smaller aspect that is especially strong in this episode is Dennis’ insistence on practicing for Boyz II Men. First of all, the fact that it’s a Boyz II Men concert that they’re planning on auditioning for is great proof of how many laughs can come from the small, random details of this show. But it’s when everyone keeps stealing Dennis’ thunder that the episode really shines. I wish I could count the number of times the title card has been led into by Dennis asking a question and then answering it. It’s been too many times to even begin to ballpark a figure. In this episode, it looks like that’s going to happen again, but everyone else answers his question. That threw me for a loop and it makes Dennis uncomfortable as well. Another great self-aware joke within the show.

Overall, this is another quality episode of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, showing that season 9 is going to be remembered as one of the stronger ones for the show. Despite lower ratings (mostly due to FXX) the show hasn’t lost any steam, and it seems that with a few more episodes like this, eclipsing the infamous decade mark is a realistic possibility.

“The Gang Gets Quarantined” is funny, smart, and just a bit depraved. Basically everything we’ve some to expect from Sunny.

Other Random Notes

  • Clean food like oranges, coconut, and snow crab.
  • “What’d you do with any information? You just stuff it deep down inside and keep an eye on it.”
  • The life of a pizza man: “Handling money. Banging lonely broads.”
  • Religious stuttering army carnies.
  • I definitely thought Charlie tricked them into drinking bleach and somehow that cured them. That would have set a horrible example for far too many kids. Though this entire show is a horrible example for any kids.
