So far on CBS’s Supergirl series, any glimpses of Superman have been obscured shots that made certain his face was never revealed, but in 2016 we’ll finally have an actor in the role – albeit with one very significant twist!

According to TV Line, we will meet Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) slightly more famous cousin in a future episode of the series, but he won’t quite be the Man of Steel yet. It seems CBS is taking a page out of Gotham‘s book, and introducing a teenage version of Kal-El through flashback in an effort to establish the “cherished bond between him and Kara.”

However, the potential is there for whoever they cast to grow into the role and play the adult Superman somewhere down the line, as the site adds that a 13-year-old actor with “future leading man looks”  is currently being sought to play the “potentially recurring role of Kal-El, aka the future MoS.”

No other character details are provided, but expect to meet the younger incarnation of Superman in the 13th episode of Supergirl, early next year.
