Well, according to the freshly released trailer for season 3 that just came out of San Diego Comic-Con, the Girl of Steel will be facing a bit of an existential crisis when we rejoin her this fall. Truth be told, nobody can blame her as she just had to fend off a full-scale Daxamite invasion and, to her knowledge, just the lost the love of her life in Mon-El.

Taking that into account, distancing herself from her Kara Danvers identity (for the time being, at least) makes a bit of sense when you consider that someone like her feels like they have two separate selves, those being their Kryptonian and Earthling sides. In her mind, she must think that being only Supergirl is the way to go, and that she must remain cold and focused.

But if anyone can pull her back from the edge, maybe it’ll be her mother, Alura, who’ll likely appear via memories and as an A.I. construct. Now played by Erica Durance of Smallville fame, this continues the tradition of adding legacy actors to the series. From the look of it, she’ll be showing up sooner rather than later.

Also spotted among the footage is Adrian Pasdar’s Morgan Edge, whom, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is “a ruthless real estate developer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants (and what he feels he deserves).” This will, of course, put him at odds with both Lena Luthor and Kara.

Supergirl returns for its third season on Monday, October 9 on The CW.
