The CW certainly is not what it used to be when it comes to the DC shows on its network. From once being the home of the Arrowverse the channel only has one show left on its roster with fans now giving a sigh of relief as it narrowly avoids the chopping block. Superman & Lois has been given the green light for its fourth season despite other DC shows winding up a little less fortunate.
The series has been running on the CW since 2021, though the pilot was announced back in 2019, with the titular character played by Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf, Palm Springs) and Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch (Grimm). The series looked at the relationship between Clark and Lois as a family, as they return back to Clark’s hometown, Smallville with their two sons Jonathon and Jordan. A quiet suburban life was never on the cards though for this superhero.
Though the series hasn’t really made any major waves, it does have its fans which newly appointed heads of DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran noted when asked about the future of the series. The two discussed the show back in January of this year when discussing the future slate of DC on the big screen and the small. At the time, Variety reported that, when asked about Superman & Lois, Gunn’s response was, “It’s a show everybody likes, so it’s going to keep going for a little bit.”
This was not the same fate dolled out to the latest DC series Gotham Knights though, which has been canceled even though it hasn’t even finished its first season. Ouch. This means that Superman & Lois is the only DC show left on The CW despite the channel having been jam-packed with them only a few years ago. Fans of the show can breathe a sigh of relief, they will at least get a fourth season, beyond that who knows, as Gunn and Safran aim to streamline the DC Universe and essentially cut off the excess.
You can catch Superman & Lois on The CW, HBO Max, as well as Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, Google Play, and iTunes.
