After teasing the appearance of Jay Garrick in the season one finale, it was finally confirmed at Comic-Con that the character would be played by Teddy Sears when The Flash returned for its sophomore outing. Now, we have our first promo image of Garrick, which pays homage to The Flash #123, which just so happens to be the issue where him and Barry Allen first meet.

“Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said when Sears’ casting was announced at Comic-Con. “It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”

Aside from giving us a glimpse of the Golden Age Flash, the image also confirms that Allen will indeed be visiting Earth 2, a parallel reality in the DC Comics multiverse.

For all that it confirms though, the new photo also begs a number of questions about both Garrick and the role that Earth 2 will play in the upcoming season. Last year’s finale certainly left us with a lot to think about, and this new promo image only serves to heighten the almost unbearable anticipation for season 2.

The Flash will return for its much-anticipated second season on October 6th at 8pm on The CW. Until then, feel free to sound off with all your theories pertaining to Garrick in the comments section below.
