Teen Wolf Review: “The Overlooked” (Season 3, Episode 10)

There's a lot to say after Teen Wolf dropped that gigantic bomb on us at the close of last week's episode. We now know that Derek's (Tyler Hoechlin) new girlfriend moonlights as the murderous, possibly (er, probably) psychotic Darach. Unfortunately, most of that extended commentary will have to wait for a post-season retrospective because tonight's episode left us with more than enough to say.

We’ve already seen that relationships aren’t always what they seem, and things are no different in the Alpha-pack. Deucalion killed a member of his own pack, so there doesn’t seem to be a lot of love loss going on there. He also seems to have his own plan, one that doesn’t necessarily include his second-in-command, Kali (Felisha Terrell). Not a huge surprise since we learned that they have had a history of a difference in opinion.

Kali had a pretty incredible scene in this episode though. When she revealed her part of Julia’s near-death experience, it was actually pretty touching. Until now we’ve only been shown the most vicious side of her personality, so it was fantastic to see her get a little sentimental. I love how they are developing these characters one-by-one  – first with Ethan (Charlie Carver), and now with Kali. It’s nice to see that they are not all carbon-copy bad guys.

Another surprising possible development – Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) and Cora? I didn’t see it coming, but I think they may be on the top of my want list after tonight. Stiles has been pining away after Lydia the entire series. It would be nice for him finally to get some requited attention. Cora is a mixed bag with her sorted history, but at least she has potential. She seems fairly straightforward, although we’re bound to get a glimpse into her ‘missing years’ any time now. Stiles needs someone that isn’t afraid to take chances, and Cora might be the right person for that job – fingers crossed. She may have been unconscious (and at least part of the time not breathing) for almost the entire scene, but I think I saw sparks.

Stiles will definitely need something to replace the fact that Isaac is treading closely to the edge of his ‘one-liner’ territory. The best lines are usually reserved for Stiles, but in this episode Isaac definitely sunk his teeth into a juicy comedic moment – as if no one else had noticed that Miss Blake wasn’t hideous looking (er, in her pre-mutilated form). It might not have been the most opportune moment, but what a great delivery – even better because it was such awkward timing.

Do you think Stiles has anything to worry about there? And, what about his chances with Cora? Let us know what you want to happen on the next episode of Teen Wolf in the comment section below!

Until next episode.
