Teen Wolf Review: “Silverfinger” (Season 3, Episode 17)

Teen Wolf offered up an intense night of supernatural drama in Silverfinger, but the storyline took a disappointing turn when the curtains closed and Stiles (Dylan O'Brien) was left standing awkwardly in the spotlight. This show has been without a real antagonist since we entered into the second half of the season, leaving Duecalion (Gideon Emery) and Ms. Blake (Haley Webb) behind. Now, however, we finally have one. Unfortunately though, it's someone we actually like.

Scott is already aware that Stiles is somehow loosely linked to the events with the escaped convict, and Melissa (Melissa Ponzio) is starting to connect the dots. She may have diagnosed Stiles as suffering from lack of sleep, but it didn’t take long for her to realize that there may be a larger connection to be made between his symptoms and his family history. We haven’t heard much about his mother except that she was involved in an accident when he was a child. Predictably, there’s more to that story. All these years later the Stilinskis are about to find out that she too had a supernatural string attached to her death.

Family history aside, if somehow Stiles’ alter ego is being triggered by the Nemeton, then there must be a way for his friends to save him. ‘Must’ being loosely translated in this particular case to include the overwhelming desire of fans since killing off Stiles would be too easy, and at the same time too hard, of an action plan. And, for less sound logic, we have yet to be indulged with the Stiles/Lydia (Holland Roden) hook up that fans have been waiting almost three complete season to experience.

The stage has been set and now we just have to wait and watch to see what happens next. It could mean the beginning of the end for this fan favorite and his sarcastic quips, but fingers crossed it’s just another adventure he gets to crack jokes about later on.

Do you think that Stiles is going to make it through season 3? Will he be able to warn Scott and the others at some point? Let us know all your thoughts on Teen Wolf in the comment section below!
