Well, we didn’t have Lizzo turning up in The Mandalorian on our 2023 bingo card. Fans have been left stunned, delighted, and in a few cases upset that the internationally popular singer/songwriter has made an unexpected appearance in Star Wars as “The Dutchess”.

But perhaps we should have seen this coming. Lizzo hasn’t been shy about her love for The Mandalorian (and Grogu in particular), as proven by her costume for 2021’s Spotify Ghost Town Halloween Party:

Clearly Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and this episode’s director Bryce Dallas Howard had paid attention, giving her a role that let her cuddle up with everyone’s favorite pint-sized Force user and eventually grant him a knighthood.

Lizzo walked the streets of West Hollywood in full Grogu gear, looking so unrecognizable that people stopped her for photos without realizing who she was. She later took the stage to perform in full Grogu costume and – as per usual for Lizzo – knocked it out of the park.

Back in August 2021, she was openly enthusiastic about her love of Star Wars and Grogu in particular. In an appearance on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, she claimed to have a huge collection of Baby Yoda merch, saying:

“I have so many friggen’ Baby Yoda’s. I got one the size of me…. I don’t know who’s sending it at this point but I’m grateful.”

Well, now she’s got to meet Grogu for herself and officially step into a galaxy far, far away. We’re only impressed that both she and the show managed to keep this bombshell cameo to herself for so long.
