Another Star Trek is about to come to a close after six years on the air. Star Trek: Discovery has been scheduled for one last voyage through space after it was announced that the upcoming fifth season will be the show’s last.
An official statement from Paramount Plus‘ chief programming officer, Tanya Giles was obtained by Deadline, which talks about the show’s final chapter. Giles praised the show for its cast and storytelling, as well as honoring Star Trek‘s creator, Gene Roddenberry’s legacy.
“Star Trek: Discovery is a perennial favorite on the service, near and dear to the hearts of legions of Star Trek fans as well as all of us here at Paramount Plus. The series and its incredible cast and creatives ushered in a new era for Star Trek when it debuted over six years ago, embracing the future of streaming with serialized storytelling, bringing to life deep and complex characters that honor Gene Roddenberry’s legacy of representing diversity and inclusion, and pushing the envelope with award-winning world-building. This final season will see our beloved crew take on a new adventure, and we can’t wait to celebrate the series’ impact on the franchise leading up to its final season early next year.”
Meanwhile, Hollywood Reporter reported that the show’s executive producers and co-showrunners, Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise released a statement about Star Trek: Discovery‘s finale. They expressed immense gratitude to bring this Star Trek series to life and would like to believe that they made Roddenberry proud. They also thanked everyone who supported the show and looked forward to seeing fans’ reactions when the finale is released.
“As lifelong fans of Star Trek, it has been an immense honor and privilege to help bring Star Trek: Discovery to the world. The Trek universe means so much to so many – including us – and we couldn’t be prouder of everything Discovery has contributed to its legacy, particularly with representation. Star Trek: Discovery was first aired on CBS in 2017 and eventually made its way to Paramount Plus in 2021. The show takes place 10 years before Star Trek: The Original Series, detailing the events that led to the war between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire.
Filming for Star Trek: Discovery‘s 10-episode finale has begun back in June 2022 and is scheduled to come out around early-2024 on Paramount Plus.
