If Succession gave viewers an amazing finale and left fans with lingering questions about the Roy siblings’ future, the season 1 finale of HBO’s newest drama, The Idol, left fans more upset than they already were. The show ended with backstabs, drama, and an ending that many claimed was beyond unsatisfying.

For those who have not seen the final episode, Jocelyn finally breaks up with Tedros, and wants him out of her life for good. She even resorted to asking Chaim to pay Tedros “a lot” of money just so he would stay away. While that sounds like a win, especially to those who were against the pairing in the first place, it was revealed at the end during her tour that she and Tedros are now in a relationship.

Meanwhile, other things were going on, like Leia leaving, Dyanne’s music career falling apart, and Jocelyn’s entourage celebrating a published exposé on Tedros. So basically, a lot of drama unfolded during the show’s final moments.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the kind of drama people were looking for with The Idol’s ending. People were shocked that the two had gotten back together. Or how Jocelyn had eventually become the bad guy in this series. At the same time, people were mad that Dyanne (played by BLACKPINK’s Jennie) couldn’t release her debut single, despite Jocelyn giving the green light to do so. In short, people were furious that Jocelyn had manipulated everyone.

Overall, The Idol‘s ending underperformed when compared to other huge HBO dramas. There have been huge shows that gave amazing endings and have had fans looking forward to the show’s next season. In this case, however, everyone seems to be celebrating that the show is over and they can finally stop watching it.

While many people hoped that The Idol would get canceled, there is speculation that a second season may come to fruition. At the moment, nothing has been officially announced, but it would shock many if it came around, especially since the show was poorly received by both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Either way, it’s up to HBO if it wants to renew the show, even though people are glad that season 1 is over.

If you want to binge the entire show, season one of The Idol is now available to stream on Max.
