The Netflix series viewers begged to be canceled spitefully returns to lay claim to #1 in 76 countries

Whenever Netflix cancels a popular series, there’s always an inevitable outpouring of fury and indignation, swiftly followed by petitions and campaigns. That being said, users tried to put the shoe on the other foot when it came to The Witcher, only to get the exact opposite instead.

After Liam Hemsworth was confirmed to be stepping in as Geralt of Rivia following Henry Cavill’s exit at the end of next month’s season 3, tens of thousands of fantasy fanatics demanded that the streaming service simply axe the show altogether instead of continuing on with a leading man that nobody wanted, asked for, or will even give a chance.

Effectively flipping them the bird, there’s already been talk that season 5 is already in early development, while not even the derided Blood Origin has stopped Netflix from plunging even more content from the Continent into development. It may not even matter if viewers threatened to boycott The Witcher to hit the company where it hurts – right in the engagements – but that clearly hasn’t happened.

Per FlixPatrol, the sword-swinging spectacular has returned with a vengeance and instantly laid claim to the number one spot on Netflix in no less than 76 countries around the world, to give off the distinct impression the online noise may have been contained in a significantly smaller bubble than initially thought.

Everyone will be equally curious to see what happens at the end of the incoming volume 2, but looking at the data, folks are going to keep on watching The Witcher regardless of who plays the White Wolf.
