The second season of the MCU’s most overlooked series could be landing sooner than expected

If this rumor is true then season two is going places.

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently argued that Marvel Studios had made too many streaming shows for Disney Plus, saying that its increased output “diluted focus and attention“. This means that the brakes may be applied on the Disney Plus MCU and that shows already in production may be spaced out so we get just one or two releases per year.

Despite that, 2023 is going to be quite busy for Marvel on Disney Plus. Secret Invasion concludes in two weeks, Loki season two is coming later in the year, and sometime around the end of 2023 we’re getting the intriguing Hawkeye spinoff Echo. Now a report from Cosmic Circus claims that one more MCU release will be joining them: I Am Groot season two.

This adorable Guardians of the Galaxy side story premiered around a year ago on Disney Plus and consists of short episodes showing the adorable plant-based scrapes Baby Groot gets into. James Gunn has now departed Marvel for DC, but this story lines up with his comments in May. When he was asked if more I Am Groot was on the way, he said:

The same report also confirms that Vin Diesel is returning to voice Groot in season two and he’ll be joined by a very special guest. Apparently, Jeffrey Wright will be reprising his What If…? role as The Watcher for the second season, indicating that this time Groot’s misadventures are going to be so consequential as to attract the attention of some of the most powerful beings in the galaxy.

Here’s hoping this rumor proves true, as after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, we’re hungry for some more Groot action.
