The Walking Dead may be one of the biggest shows on television, but it’s not without its detractors.

For all of the sweeping world-building and at times intense character drama, there are those who believe AMC’s undead juggernaut leans on excessive, gratuitous violence to offset sluggish pacing. And there is perhaps no better example of that dilemma than The Walking Dead season 7, which was chock-full of spectacle – the nail-biting premiere, for one – and forgettable moments that did little to advance the plot.

To their credit, the show’s creators – primarily series showrunner Scott Gimple – have taken that feedback on board, and have seemingly made a concerted effort to deliver a taut, thrilling eighth season late next month. But as the long-anticipated premiere, one directed by Walking Dead stalwart Greg Nicotero, inches ever closer, Entertainment Weekly has today rolled out another promo to commemorate the show’s latest milestone.

And so, with the 100th episode imminent, EW asked the likes of Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Danai Gurira (Michonne) and Melissa McBride (Carol) to recap the entire Walking Dead saga in 30 seconds. At least they gave it their best shot.

From Rick Grimes staggering out of his hospital bed in a ravaged Atlanta City all the way up to the moment the gang crosses paths with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), The Walking Dead is perhaps best summarized as a rat-a-tat deluge of zombie action, twisted human character, zombies, shocking deaths, and more zombies. And though it may go without saying, we should warn you that the above video does contain some mild story spoilers.

The Walking Dead season 8 gets going in earnest on October 22nd, and it looks like AMC’s flagship has finally been given the green light to drop the F-bomb from time to time. And not a moment too soon.
