When one thinks of The Walking Dead, it’s almost second nature to associate AMC’s crown jewel with ravaged, apocalyptic environments and wandering Walkers with an insatiable appetite for human flesh.
That is, in essence, the fuel that has kept The Walking Dead ticking over for seven seasons and 99 episodes, but with the show’s eighth instalment imminent, AMC has today rolled out a smattering of candid behind-the-scenes shots that find fun in the zombie apocalypse.
And given how The Walking Dead has been championed as a breathless, balls-to-the-wall experience, one in which Ezekiel, Daryl Dixon and Melissa McBride’s Carol will all endure testing times, this hilarious gallery couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Featuring BTS shots from season 7 all the way back to TWD‘s debut, AMC’s media dump also acts as a trip down memory lane, which will only add to the excitement beginning to swirl for The Walking Dead‘s 100th episode. And it seems series showrunner Scott Gimple and his team plan to start season 8 as they mean to go on, which is to say that viewers ought to free up their schedule for the show’s long-anticipated return on October 22nd.
For a show that prides itself on gruesome effects and industry-standard makeup, this is a tantalizing peek behind the curtain to see how The Walking Dead operates. AMC’s juggernaut has always pushed the envelope when it comes to designing its zombies – word is the Powers That Be have even considered casting skilled contortionists for season 8 – and we fully expect Gimple and Co. to uphold tradition in five week’s time.
The Walking Dead returns for its eighth season on October 22nd, and the official synopsis spells all-out war for Rick Grimes and the gang. Just don’t expect TWD to pull a fast one and reveal that Andrew Lincoln’s leader has been experiencing a coma this whole time.
