January 2018 has finally come to a close, which can only mean one thing: AMC is ready to herald the return of The Walking Dead season 8.
Yes, for the seventh year on the trot – remember, TWD‘s inaugural season was only comprised of six episodes in total – February belongs to the undead, and we now know the official title of season 8’s hotly-anticipated mid-season premiere.
It’ll release as “Honor,” with the official synopsis teasing an 82-minute ride involving “new difficulties” and “hard decisions,” along with a status report on the other communities scattered across AMC’s barren, post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Rick faces new difficulties after a battle. Meanwhile, the fight continues in other communities as core members face hard decisions.
Exactly what those “hard decisions” will be is up for question, though we imagine AMC’s logline is largely referring to the imminent death of Carl Grimes, who so tragically suffered a walker bite late last year. He’s on death’s door, then, and The Walking Dead‘s legions of fans are slowly coming to terms with what is arguably one of the show’s biggest deaths to date.
It’ll have far-reaching consequences, too, particularly as his surviving father – one who was also forced to bury his wife – gears up for the final confrontation against Negan and his malevolent goons (AKA the Saviors), who can be seen flocking to their master’s aid up above.
It’s time to finish the fight. Season 8 of The Walking Dead returns with “Honor” on February 25th. It’ll be an extended episode, too, lending viewers the chance to savor Carl’s final moments before Chandler Riggs’ small-screen hero heads for the proverbial exit door.
