The Walking Dead Season 6 Photos Feature A Disillusioned, Scattered Group

Perhaps the core tenet that keeps AMC flagship series - and indeed Robert Kirkman's comic book - trucking along is the fact that, while The Walking Dead is set against a dark and dire zombie apocalypse, walkers are by no means the only issue survivors must face. As earlier season have explored, it's internal conflicts, scavenging for survival and the psychological burden of fighting a seemingly relentless enemy that really forms the backbone of the narrative, as Kirkman and Co. imagine the ways in which humans react to the world around them when the pillars of society come crumbling down.

Perhaps the core tenet that keeps AMC flagship series – and indeed Robert Kirkman’s comic book – trucking along is the fact that, while The Walking Dead is set against a dark and dire zombie apocalypse, walkers are by no means the only issue survivors must face. As earlier season have explored, it’s internal conflicts, scavenging for survival and the psychological burden of fighting a seemingly relentless enemy that really forms the backbone of the narrative, as Kirkman and Co. imagine the ways in which humans react to the world around them when the pillars of society come crumbling down.

Picking up the story strands from the devastating season 5 finale, The Walking Dead season 6 welcomes us back to a core, scattered band of survivors that have been left disillusioned by the events that have come to pass. And today, ahead of the show’s long-awaited return at the beginning of October, a slew of new images have debuted online, coming by way of Entertainment Weekly, TV Insider, The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter.

From Melissa McBride’s Carol gazing distantly at a blade to Andrew Lincoln’s fearless (questionable?) leader slumped down on a porch, the ragtag crew are certainly worse of wear after their time spent in Alexandria.

Prepare for a whole new wave of terror when The Walking Dead season 6 premieres on AMC come October 11.

Season six starts with Alexandria’s safety shattered by multiple threats. To make it, the people of Alexandria will need to catch up with our survivors’ hardness while many of Rick’s people will need to take a step back from the violence and pragmatism they’ve needed to embrace. These reversals won’t happen easily, or without conflict. But now Rick’s group is fighting for something more than survival. They’re fighting for their home, and they will defend that at any cost, against any threat, even if that threat comes from within.
