Fans of Netflix’s Squid Game are in no short supply these days, with the series proving to be hugely popular around the globe and on track to become the most popular show ever for the streaming platform. The show’s characters, intricately written plot, social commentary and breath-taking twists have easily sucked us into the world, which takes place in South Korea.

Squid Game centers around people who are on the brink of financial ruin that get recruited to a shadowy organization to a macabre contest. 456 participants compete to win 45.6 billion won (South Korean currency the equivalent of $38 million U.S. dollars). All the contestants must play a series of children’s games–the winners of which progress to the next round while the losers get killed.

That show has become nothing short of a cultural phenomenon for its relatable characters, witty allegory for class inequality and late capitalism, and stunning visuals.

But for a survival drama with such an emotionally draining journey, for many of us, we need to unwind at the end of the day by laughing at some great memes.
