Filmmakers and creatives need to be careful if they show phone numbers in any medium, just in case curious viewers might attempt to give them a call. But has anyone attempted to call the phone number that was featured on Wednesday? It seems that wasn’t the case until now.
Reddit user u/Jenaortega asked on r/Wednesday if anyone had called Wednesday’s number that was featured in the show. To recap, Thing traveled to Tyler’s house and gave him her number just so she can ask him to take him to the train station at night. And since the show aired last year, there wasn’t any word if this number was some sort of easter egg, where viewers would receive a special surprise at the other side of the line.
There is a reason why no one talked about this phone number when it appeared on the screen. It’s because it was already obvious that it was a fake number. The number had the Massachusetts area code (+413), but following that are the numbers “555.” 555 numbers are reserved phone numbers that phone companies made so that films and TV shows can show numbers without receiving complaints from real phone users.
However, for those who were hoping for something interesting to come out of this phone number, take a look at the final four digits — 1938. That is the year when the first Addams Family comic was released. It may not be the easter egg people were hoping for but it’s there for those who know the franchise’s history.
And just in case anyone still feels like there is someone behind the line, a few people have attempted to call the number but received nothing at the other end.
